Thousands of cars go through Japanese auctions every week, so there is usually a wide choice for most models.

Japanese car auctions only allow licensed members to bid, so private buyers overseas cannot bid directly. As a licensed exporter, we bid on your behalf and handle everything after the auction: payment to the auction house, inland transport, export paperwork and shipping.

• Auction: the widest choice and usually the lowest prices. Cars are sold as-is, and the auction sheet is your main condition report.
• Dealer (for example CarSensor): a fixed price, the car is available now, and there is more time to check details before buying.

Yes. We share the auction sheet for the car you're interested in and explain the key points: the overall grade, interior grade, mileage, equipment and the damage map. That way you can set your maximum bid with confidence.

The interior grade runs from A (excellent) to E (poor). Exact scales vary slightly between auction houses, so we always explain the sheet for your car.

• A: scratch (A1 small, A3 large)
• U: dent
• B: dent with scratch
• W: wave or repaired panel
• S / C: rust / corrosion
• P: paint marks
• Y: crack or hole
• X / XX: panel needs replacing / has been replaced

The number after the letter shows the size: 1 is small, 3 is large.

Japan has strict vehicle inspections (shaken), and auction houses check mileage records. If there is doubt about a car's mileage, it is normally marked on the auction sheet. Many Japanese cars also have low mileage because of good public transport and the cost of keeping a car.

Yes. Japan drives on the left, so JDM cars are right-hand drive. Right-hand-drive cars can be registered in the USA, most of Canada (Quebec and Prince Edward Island have extra age rules) and the UK. Some countries restrict right-hand-drive cars, so check your local rules before buying.

You see exactly what we paid for your car. For auction cars, we send you the winning bid screenshot. For dealer cars, you receive the original dealer invoice. Nothing is added to the car's price before you see it.

No. Every cost is itemized in your quote before you commit, and you see the real auction result or dealer invoice. Many exporters quietly add margin to the car price, inland transport or auction results. We don't.

Ocean freight rates change every month and depend on the route, vessel schedule and car size. We quote shipping for your exact port and date so you get a current, accurate price instead of an estimate that may change.

• RoRo (Roll-on/Roll-off): the car is driven onto a specialised vehicle ship. It is more economical, priced by vehicle size, and suits most standard cars.
• Container: the car is secured inside a 20ft or 40ft container. It costs more but gives extra protection, so we recommend it for high-value, rare or classic cars.

Yes. A 40ft container can usually carry several cars, which can lower the cost per car for dealers or group buyers. Parts can often be loaded together with the car. Tell us what you want to ship and we'll plan the loading.

These are our most common routes. We ship worldwide, so contact us for a quote to any other port.

It depends on your destination port and the vessel schedule for that month. Sailing to the North American west coast is usually shorter than to the east coast or Europe. We confirm the booking and the estimated arrival date with you before the car leaves Japan, and keep you updated until it arrives.

• Export certificate, with an English translation where needed
• Bill of Lading: we send a draft for you to review before it is issued
• Surrender BL, so the car can be released at your destination port

Once the ship arrives, you or your customs broker clear the car through customs using the documents we provide, pay any local duty and taxes, and arrange collection from the port. Because we issue a Surrender BL, you don't need to wait for original paper documents by post.

It is strongly recommended, especially for your first import. A local customs broker prepares the import forms, handles duty and tax payments and knows the port procedures. Our local support contacts can also share their experience.

Yes, if the car is 25 years or older from its month of manufacture. Under the 25-year rule, these cars are exempt from US federal safety (FMVSS) and emissions conformity requirements.

• Typical duty: 2.5% for passenger cars (trucks and vans can be higher)
• Import forms usually include DOT HS-7 and EPA 3520-1
• Registration rules vary by state; some states restrict kei trucks and vans

Cars built in 2001 become eligible month by month during 2026, counted from their month of manufacture. Popular examples include later R34 Nissan Skyline models, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII, Subaru Impreza WRX STI (GDB), Honda Integra Type R and Toyota Supra builds from 2001. Always check the exact build date before bidding. We can confirm it for you.

Yes. Canada allows cars that are 15 years or older from their date of manufacture, which means cars built in 2011 or earlier become eligible during 2026.

• Quebec and Prince Edward Island require 25 years for right-hand-drive registration
• Expect about 6.1% duty plus 5% GST, and provincial taxes where they apply
• Vehicles 15 years and older are exempt from the RIV (Registrar of Imported Vehicles) program

Yes. The UK has no minimum age for imported cars.

• Cars under 10 years old need IVA approval; older cars need an MOT
• You must notify HMRC through NOVA within 14 days of arrival
• Standard import VAT is 20%; historic vehicles over 30 years old may qualify for a reduced rate
• The UK drives on the left, so right-hand-drive JDM cars suit UK roads

• Netherlands: EU type approval is required, usually as an individual approval through the RDW. VAT is 21%, plus import duty and BPM registration tax where they apply.
• France: DREAL approval, carte grise registration, and a contrôle technique for cars over 4 years old. VAT is 20%.

EU rules are more complex than the USA or UK, so we recommend speaking to a local import specialist first.

Thailand does not allow used passenger cars to be imported for personal use, so we supply new cars only for Thai buyers. Tell us the model you want and we'll send a quote.

• Cambodia: we ship to Phnom Penh. Cambodia has rules on vehicle age and right-hand-drive cars, so confirm eligibility locally before buying.
• Taiwan: we ship to Keelung, Taichung and Kaohsiung. Import approval and inspection rules apply, so check with a local agent first.
